Criticism is at fever’s pitch from many F1 drivers competing in this weekend’s race at the Miami International Autodrome, over concerns of low grip surfaces off the racing line.
There were three red flag crashes during the practice runs as drivers attempted to qualify. The drivers blamed the lack of grip away from the rubbered in racing line.
Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz states “overtaking is possible with all these three long straights”. However, he is concerned that the off-line grip will deter drivers from attempting edge moves.
Sainz goes on to say, “All drivers complained about the lack of grip that there is off-line,”. “So, if you’re going to make a pass, you need to make it stick fairly early into the braking.
While the FIA acknowledges the drivers’ request to address the lack of grip, specifically on Turn 1 it has no plans to conduct any additional track sweeping since the entire circuit is swept prior to each new session.
