Future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady officially announced his retirement from the NFL, posting on Instagram that he is “not going to make that competitive commitment anymore.” He went on to say, “I have always believed the sport of football is an ‘all-in’ proposition… if a 100% competitive commitment isn’t there, you won’t succeed, and success is what I love so much about our game,”.
In what appeared to be an emotional post, Brady wrote about his love for playing in the NFL for 22 seasons. However, it was time for him to focus his energy on other things that requires his attention.
Brady thanked the fans, his business partners, his agents and his family. Robert Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots. The team that drafted Brady and where he spent 20 of his 22 seasons playing, wish Brady well. In a statement Kraft said, “Words cannot describe the feelings I have for Tom Brady, nor adequately express the gratitude my family, the New England Patriots and our fans have for Tom for all he did during his career,”.
For his career Brady amassed a regular season of 243 wins and 73 losses. He was 35-12 in playoffs games. He won three MVP awards and was selected to play in the Pro Bowl an amazing 15 times. This is a Hall of Fame by any measure but considering that Brady was only the 199th pick in the 2000 draft, and only got an opportunity to play when he replaced his injured teammate and starting quarter Drew Bledsoe, makes this all the more fairytale like.
