Former boxing champion Floyd Mayweather may have found himself in hot for what many believe were insensitive comments about the #MeToo movement.
It was reported that during an interview with Mens’ Health Magazine Mayweather was unaware of the meaning of #MeToo and provided an explanation of what it meant to him. Essentially, he described Me Too as a One Upped You, response to someone that brags about having a high priced possession. He described it this way. “When you say Me Too, my thing was this. When somebody be like, I got a Rolls Royce, I be like Me Too.”
In fairness to the champ when told by the interviewer of the alternative meaning of #MeToo he responded by saying “If you’re in an uncomfortable position you have to pray about it”. He continued his support by saying “I think that, you know, sexual harassment, I don’t think it’s cool at all.”
The five-time champion may have not received the benefit of the doubt for his unintentional oversight due to his history of domestic abuse. However, it is reasonable to believe that you do not become champion of 5 weight divisions if you are focused on news and current events.
