Cristiano Ronaldo’s court appearance only lasted about 45 minutes. The soccer superstar will avoid serving a 23-month prison sentence.
The Juventus forward settled his case by paying a fine of roughly $21.4 million. First-time offenders in Spain can have their sentences suspended for two years or less.
Ronaldo played for Real Madrid from 2009 to 2018 and was accused of using shell companies outside of Spain to hide income. He allegedly “obtained significant income” from image rights between 2011 and 2014. According to ‘Forbes,’ Ronaldo earns roughly $93 million a year.
He is also facing a rape allegation in the U.S., stemming from an incident in Las Vegas in 2009.
